Nowruz, the Persian New Year, falls at the March equinox — around 20 or 21 March — and the weeks around it are when the Iranian community in the Emirates goes home. Every one of them wants the same few days, which is what makes this the hardest fortnight of the year to fly to Iran at a sensible price.
The cheapest seats on those dates are sold first and do not come back. The single best thing you can do is fix the dates early and book as soon as they are fixed; the second is to look beyond the obvious airport and the obvious day.
Getting home for Nowruz
Book when the dates are fixed
Not when the holiday is announced at work. Peak seats only get dearer as Nowruz approaches.
Look at the other airports
Sharjah and Abu Dhabi both have flights to Tehran, and Mehrabad is priced separately from Imam Khomeini.
The return matters as much
The days after the holiday are as busy as the days before it. Book both directions together.
The family on one booking
For four or more, the desk can keep everyone on one fare rather than splitting you across prices.
A Nowruz booking, in order
- 1
Fix the dates
Out and back, and which of the two could move by a day.
- 2
Count everyone
Adults, children and infants — they price differently.
- 3
Search all three airports
Dubai, Sharjah and Abu Dhabi, to both Tehran airports, Mashhad or Shiraz.
- 4
Book, or hand it to us
Pay online, or WhatsApp the desk in Farsi and let us work the seats.

Questions we get asked
When should I book flights for Nowruz?
As soon as your dates are fixed. The cheapest seats on peak days sell first and are not released again nearer the time.
Which days are busiest?
The days just before Nowruz on the way out, and the days after the holiday on the way back. Flying a day or two earlier, or later, is often noticeably cheaper.
Can you book the whole family together?
Yes. Send the numbers and ages and the desk will try to keep everybody on one flight and one fare.
Can I speak to someone in Farsi?
Yes — every day from 8:30 AM to 8:30 PM, by phone, WhatsApp or at our office in Port Saeed, Deira.
Going home for Nowruz?
Send the dates and who is travelling. We will come back with the options across the airports, and the whole price of each.
